November Birthstone – Topaz

Topaz : November’s Birthstone

Topaz, the birthstone for the month of November, is a gemstone that represents health in body as well as health in mind. Some people believe that wearing topazes will increase the ability of the person to heal his or her own body in times of illness or injury. It is also thought to nurture practicality and creativity in its wearer.

Blue topaz is the gem of the fourth wedding anniversary, and Imperial topaz is the gem of the 23rd wedding anniversary.

Where is Topaz generally found?

Topaz can be found in Namibia, Nigeria, Madagascar, Mexico, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and the United States, as well as the historic Russian localities.

How do you clean Topaz?

Topaz jewellery is best cleaned only with mildly warm, soapy water.  Ultrasound cleaners and ionic cleaners, as well as abrasive cleaners should be avoided at all costs, as topazes are poor in hardness.  High heat and sudden large temperature changes can cause internal cracks in the stone (for example, it would not be a good idea to pour boiling water onto your topaz gemstone).

Topaz is a beautiful stone, but these are the things you have to bear in mind when you DIY your jewellery cleaning.
